I was so honoured to be asked to make this journal for a lovely lady who has scleroderma. The emblem of the Australian Scleroderma Association is the sunflower, so she wanted the main theme to be sunflowers.
She also likes butterflies, ladybirds, and especially dragonflies, so I included all these too.
I didn’t have any sunflower items in my stash, so I bought my first digital kit from the amazing Artymaze. I actually got two: the sunflower one and the dragonfly one.
I’ve had my eye on the dragonfly dreams kit for a while now and it’s the one I’ve wanted the most, so I was glad for this excuse to get it – hehe.
I love the trims and the charms on the side:
And the papers and ephemera are so beautiful.
The lady said she wasn’t fussed about lots of writing space but she likes all the tucks and flips and flaps and gets excited when she watches me pull things out in my journal flip throughs.
Here’s a look at some of my favourite pages:
I interspersed pages from the kit with coffee-dyed papers and some pages from my stash that relate to flowers or sunshine.
I included a page with the lyrics to ‘You Are My Sunshine’ and also some sheet music for ‘Over The Rainbow.’ Amazingly, the lady said they brought a tear to her eye because her mum sang ‘Over The Rainbow’ to her as a child and her daughter loved ‘You Are My Sunshine.’
I love it when things like that happens. I let her know I always pray while I make a journal that the journal will include things that will mean something to the person getting the journal even if I don’t know them. I trust this will happen because it’s happened so often and God knows what will speak to people.
I hope my journals bring comfort, joy, peace, and encouragement to people. I pray they bring light and a little bit of God into their lives wherever they are.
